Funds to Address Energy Efficiency and Climate Resiliency
October 15, 2024 – The Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $8.4 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) awards. The GRRP provides funding to owners of HUD-assisted multifamily housing to reduce carbon emissions, improve utility efficiency, incorporate renewable energy, and make properties more resilient to climate hazards. The grant award will be used for improvements at the Kings Road housing development located in West Hollywood.
The LACDA will use the grant to fund energy efficient heating and cooling measures in units at the development and other energy-related improvements such as windows, lighting, HVAC, and solar carports. The grant will also address mobility and safety improvements for seniors whose average age at the property is 75, and disabled residents, including American with Disabilities Act (ADA) related improvements for accessibility throughout the site.
This is the second GRRP grant awarded to the LACDA; the first grant, in the amount of $9.6 million, was awarded earlier in the year to address similar improvements at the Lancaster Homes housing development located in Lancaster. The work at the Lancaster site is currently underway and includes the construction of energy efficient windows and doors, heat-resistant roofs, energy efficient heating and cooling, solar, and lighting, as well as ADA-related improvements.
